Banlieue 04:34
When there is nowhere safe to go, I go. Banlieue. Where the sound’s not safe and sound, I belong to another crowd down below banlieue Oh, banlieue, oh. Where highways meet the edge of towns, I go. Banlieue. My folks didn’t understand. I’m better off as a boy than as a man. Mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, please. The future’s on the other side of the earth. Another day upright. There’s a reason why, but I don’t know.

When I take a ride where my bike wants me to go, we’re watching the police man as we slowly drink a Coke. Then when the time has come, we're taking the long way home, racing to beat the sunlight home from New Baltimore. At the carnival in the city by the bay, The tractors had training wheels, so I lied about my age. South of the avenue but east are our neighbors to the north, I swear that’s where I found New Baltimore. New Baltimore I was a fisherman, but the fish, they flew away. Painting the anchor red where the Tars come out to play, it doesn’t matter now if I made it through the ranks. I was there before it sank in New Baltimore. I know the history of the harbor all the way. It’s not what it used to be, not yet what it is going to be. The moon never looked so big over the water tower I swear that’s where I found New Baltimore. New Baltimore I will look for you where my bike want me to go. We’re watching the setting sun as we slowly drink a Coke. Then when the time has come, I’ll take the long way home again, racing to beat the sunlight home from New Baltimore. New Baltimore

Good Hope 04:22
In from a valley, we’re only the hope allowed, nobody can see her. Fifteen thousand here You didn’t understand, you’re doing what was real. Good hope. Good hope. I’m not alone, not near. There was a sermon now, and I’m staking out the clear. Fifteen thousand here All of the life fell out, uncertain why we’re here. Good hope. Good hope.

I can’t start over now. It’s much too late. First impression came too late. No excuses; come what may. Can’t stop arguing. Can’t stop hate. Sense of humor came too late. I can’t start over. Come what may. They can’t hate you for trying. They can’t hate you for trying. They can’t hate you for trying. They can’t hate you for trying. And I know that you were trying, and doing everything you could, but I was busing lying. No, never understood. Now you’re just a problem that I won’t take lying down. Now that we’re together, I don’t want to wait. I can’t start over now. It’s much too late. First impression came too late. No excuses; come what may. They can’t hate you for trying. No, no no. They can’t hate you for trying. They can’t hate you for trying. They can’t hate you for trying.

I was wrong, you were right. I was told not to fight with you. And I’m sorry, but I didn’t understand And it’s hard to admit I believed what I said to you. You were smiling when I told the biggest lie. You and every other girl Try to turn me into a game. It’s the same thing every night; How we try to fail in exactly same way. I can’t take it any more. I don’t care any more about you or your enemies. I can’t take it any more. I can’t take it any more. It is late when you call So afraid, say “Don’t be mad at me,” ‘cause your neighbor, he just might be Son of Sam When you asked on the phone if someday I’ll give up on you, I don’t know why I just wanted to say yes. Hear me out for the first time. I don’t care what your friends think. You should write what you’re gonna say. 'Cause you figure it out when it’s just too late. I can’t take it any more. You live your life like a TV movie. I can’t take it any more. I can’t take it any more. The pavement is wet and I Want to forget you. “Do you remember? We used to Drive all over town “Under calm yellow lights as they blinked into oblivion.” And I felt like we had gone from coast to coast. I can’t take it any more. I don’t care any more about you or your enemies. I can’t take it any more. It’s not your crying. It’s not your whining. It’s that you never even tried to understand. It’s not your crying. It’s not your whining. It’s that you never even tried to understand. I can’t take it any more.

Don't fall asleep on the train. Everyone knows where you've been. Don't fall asleep on the train. Everyone knows where you've been, and they'll keep coming on and they'll keep getting off again. Don't fall asleep on the train. Everyone knows where you live. Don't fall asleep on the train. Everyone knows where you live, and they'll keep coming on and they'll keep getting off again. They'll keep on moving, moving around. Don't fall asleep on the train. Everyone knows where you've been. Don't fall asleep on the train. Everyone knows where you've been. and they'll keep coming on and they'll keep getting off again, and they'll keep coming on and they'll keep getting off again. They'll keep on moving, moving around. I don't know what you expect to see, but I hope that you see it. I don't know what you expect to be, but I expect you to be it, and they'll keep coming down, and they'll keep coming 'round again, and they'll keep coming down, and they'll keep coming 'round again. They'll keep on moving, moving around. Don't fall asleep on the train. Don't fall asleep on the train. Don't fall asleep on the train. Don't fall asleep on the train.

He’s married to his job, but he also has a wife, and her name is Helen, and it tears him up inside when she scribbles the page of the poem he’s reading. She doesn’t let him read. She only tears up the pages. He works for the bank, but his boss is about to fire him. Well it’s too bad, too bad, too bad. You know he doesn’t mind you. He waits for his break. Eats lunch in the basement. He sits in the vault and reads about H-bombs in the paper. And climbing the steps, he exits the vault, wipes dust from his glasses. He calls out for his wife, calls out for some help, and wanders the wasteland. He knows he alone, he knows he alive, but he wishes he wasn’t, so he picks up a gun, and he puts it to his head, but he notices a library. And it’s too bad, too bad, too bad. Well it’s too bad, too bad, too bad. You know it’s not fair. You know he had time. You know it’s not fair. You know he had time. Well it’s too bad, too bad, too bad, and it’s not fair, not fair, not fair. And it’s too bad, too bad, too bad, and I’m sorry for your misfortune.

No Name #7 04:22
What happened in '96 that changed your life? Was it that girl, or was it something else-- something far much worse? I'm sure that the pain that you felt was worse that the pain that we feel. To hell with the politics that changed your mind. Did you just miss feeling miserable like you said you would? I'm sure that the pain that you felt was worse than the pain that we feel. I'm sure that the pain that you felt was worse than the pain that we feel. I'm sure that the pain that you felt was worse than the pain that we feel. I'm sure that the pain that you felt was worse than the pain that we feel. I hope that the pain that you felt was worse than the pain that we feel. I hope that the pain that you felt was worse than the pain that we feel.

about

This album, GREENLAND, is a sandwich made from the best leftovers of two other unfinished album projects. Tracks 1-5 were written and recorded in November, 2010 for the National Solo Album Month project (NASOALMO). Tracks 6-8 were frantically recorded over two days in December, 2009 in the hopes of making an album in time for Christmas. After a few overdubs and updated vocal takes, these were all that could be salvaged from that session.
